How to Write Ad Copy for a Coffee Shop
A coffee shop ad has one real job: get someone who's already nearby to walk in today, and give someone slightly further away a reason to make it a habit. Generic "great coffee, great vibes" copy does neither. Here's what actually gets people through the door.
Sell the specific thing, not the category
"Coffee shop" describes a category. It doesn't describe a reason to choose yours over the other three within walking distance. Lead with something specific:
- Generic: "Great Coffee, Great Vibes"
- Specific: "Oat Milk Lattes & Fresh Pastries, Baked Daily"
First-visit offers work better than loyalty pitches
Someone who's never been to your shop doesn't care about a loyalty program yet — they need a reason to try it once. A specific first-time offer removes the "maybe next time" hesitation:
"New here? First coffee's on us. Just show this ad at the counter."
Lean on what remote workers and students actually search for
If your shop is a place people work from, say so directly — "fast wifi," "plenty of outlets," "quiet after 2pm" are all real deciding factors for someone choosing where to spend three hours with a laptop. Don't make them guess from a photo of latte art.
Target tight, and layer relevant interests
A coffee shop's realistic radius is small — most people won't drive 20 minutes for coffee they can get in 5. Keep targeting to a 2–5 mile radius, layered with interests like coffee culture, local food/drink pages, and (if relevant) remote work or student-adjacent interests for your specific location.
Rotate seasonal offers instead of running one ad forever
A pumpkin spice launch, a summer cold brew push, a holiday gift card promo — seasonal specificity gives people a reason to pay attention to an ad they might otherwise scroll past out of familiarity. Treat your ad copy as something to refresh every few weeks, not a "set it and forget it" asset.
